Lesson overview

A photovoltaic power plant is not an ordinary grassed area. Electrical equipment, live DC cabling, metal structures, sensitive PV modules, restricted spaces, uneven terrain and continuously changing vegetation exist in the same working environment. Mowing must therefore be treated as a specialised operation and maintenance activity rather than simple landscape work.

This free lesson introduces the principles of site inspection, risk assessment, machinery and method selection, safe work organisation, fire prevention, asset protection, quality control and long-term vegetation planning.

Who this lesson is for

  • Operators of mowers, mulchers and remote-controlled machines
  • Solar farm maintenance personnel
  • Team leaders and technical supervisors
  • PV asset owners and operators
  • Contractors providing vegetation-management services
  • Solar cleaning and O&M professionals

What you will learn

  • How vegetation affects safety, access, fire risk and energy production
  • How to perform a basic site and hazard assessment
  • How to select a suitable mowing or vegetation-control method
  • How to recognise risks around cables, modules, inverters and structures
  • How to organise work to protect personnel and PV assets
